Catholic Dems protest Pope's Abortion Comments

It is time to for a clear, unambigous teaching on this matter...

From USA Today:

A group of 18 Catholic House Democrats publicly disputed Pope Benedict XVI's recent condemnation of politicians who support abortion rights, saying that "such notions offend the very nature of the American experiment."

1 comment:

  1. We've already had clear, unambiguous teaching on the matter:
    1. Politicians supporting abortion are separating themselves from the Church.
    2. People who vote for politicians supporting abortion because they support abortion are separating themselves from the Church.
    3. People who vote for politicians supporting abortion based on other issues they feel cumulatively outweigh the support of abortion morally are not materially cooperating in evil, and haven't separated themselves from the Church.
    4. No other issues carry the moral weight of abortion and the right to life.

It seems to me that people falling into points 1 & 2 have already excommunicated themselves from the Church and our bishops are obligated to acknowledge that fact. Our Bishops are also responsible for teaching those in point 3 about points 1, 2, and 4. Thank God for the Mexican bishops and the few bishops in the US who are trying to do so. And may He have mercy on those who are distorting the Church's teachings.
