Office of Readings Podcast

I couldn't find one online (there is one for Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer), so I'm setting out to do one. I have three days available and I'll try to keep at least two-three days ahead of schedule.

Of all the hours the Office of Readings makes the most sense as a podcast because it largely is made up of two substantial readings-one from Scripture, the other from a Church Father, Saint or Council.

  1. Somewhat related, I have recently purchased the shorter Liturgy of the Hours titled "Christian Prayer". I am sort of lost on how to follow it though. Do you know of any place that might have good instructions for using this book?

  2. I believe Universalis.com has a very good "How to pray the office" on their site. Part of it is just figuring out what week you are praying right now...this week we are in the Week II of the psalter and the sixth week in ordinary time. So if you open it up to Monday of Week II you'll be on the right track.

  3. There's a free PDF tutorial at

"Our updated easy-to-understand tutorial on the Liturgy of the Hours is now available for download and printing. This fourth edition (2007) adds sections on how to pray on special feast days, a detailed tutorial for praying with the abridged prayer books, chanting and basic Latin prayers."

  4. Thank you Michael and Melissa. I also found an online tutorial that walks you through Evening prayer for a Feast Day. It is very good and can be found here:
